Scott S. Brabrand will be starting his fourth year as principal of Fairfax High School. He is Chair-Elect of the Fairfax County High School Principals Association. He was nominated for the Nancy Sprague Outstanding First Year Principal award by the Fairfax High School PTSA and was honored as a 2006 Top-Rated Principal by the Fairfax County Federation of Teachers. He previously served as an associate principal at Lake Braddock Secondary School. Before assuming the associate principal position in 2001, he served as an Assistant Principal I and II at Herndon High School. Actually, Dr. Brabrand began his career with Fairfax County Public Schools in 1994, serving Herndon High School as a social studies teacher. Dr. Brabrand, however, has eclectic educational and career experiences. He worked in private industry as a Group Manager for C & P Telephone of Virginia (1990-1991) and as an Assistant Manager for Bell Atlantic (1991-1995). He has been an adjunct professor with Virginia Tech's School of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, teaching School Law. He received a B. S. in Foreign Service at Georgetown University, Washington, DC; an M. Ed. in Teacher Preparation and Special Education from George Washington University, Washington, DC; and an Ed. D. in Education Administration from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. His varied background, which includes fluency in speaking and writing Spanish, is a good match for Fairfax High School's comprehensive school programs and its economically and ethnically diverse school community. Dr. Brabrand is also a new City of Fairfax resident, moving into the Old Lee Hills neighborhood this year with his wife Debbie and his 5 year old twin sons, Bennett and William.
