Tam Cooper, Associate Consultant
Tamara Cooper is currently in her second year as a principal at C. Alton Lindsay Middle School in Hampton City School Division in the Commonwealth of VA. In a year, she was instrumental in helping to facilitate the process of taking a majority minority school to fully meet the mandates of NCLB in all subject areas and establishing professional learning communities. Currently, she has worked as an educational consultant with several Chicago International Baccalaureate schools in the areas of assessment, curriculum, and motivating unmotivated students. In addition, she has provided workshops for Hampton City Schools and on instructional leadership and the administrator’s role and time management. She has provided workshops for the Hampton Federation of Teachers on mentorships, walkthroughs that work, technology integration, leaving no child behind, new teacher induction, portfolio evaluation process, grantwriting. and program efficacy. She serves on the superintendent principal’s committee, wellness committee, COMPASS committee and the promotion and retention committee. She assisted in writing a grant for Gear Up, a grant to prepare students for college. She has written and received grants for math and mentoring programs in the total amount of 1 million dollars. She served as the 1999-2000 teacher scholar fellow for the University of VA and created a curriculum for women’s studies She served as a consultant for Amerigroup and developed an assessment tool for the medical group. In addition, she was nominated for the WHRO Excellence in Education award. She works as an adjunct professor at ECPI College of Technology in the area of critical thinking and English. In addition, she has served as an elementary school assistant principal and middle school assistant principal. She taught high school, middle school and college English. She received a B.A. in English Secondary Education from Norfolk State University. She earned a M.A. in English and Technical Writing from Old Dominion University. She earned an Ed.S. in K-12 Administration from Old Dominion University. Mrs. Cooper’s background is very diverse working with students from all socio-economic, ethnic, English as a Second Language, and Special Education areas. |
