As a practitioner with 38 years in public education, Dr. Vicki Edwards has consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership and instructional capacity. Her 20 years as a teacher and reading specialist provided a solid foundation for her role as an educational leader at both the building and district level. During her 11 years as an elementary school administrator, she was instrumental in the development and implementation of school-wide programs which significantly impacted student achievement. As part of this work, she developed the MS-PAS, a Phonemic Awareness screening test that independent research has shown to be a robust predictor of student reading success in the primary grades. Her knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and technology enabled her to serve at the district level as the leader of a broad range of initiatives including Title I, state and district assessments, literacy, and GEIT (a general education intervention program). She led the way in providing research-based literacy initiatives and embedded a wealth of professional development for teachers and administrators at the elementary level as they learned to use DIBELs to inform reading instruction. In addition, Dr. Edwards was responsible for procuring and implementing a district-wide assessment system (ASPIRE) focusing on formative assessment. During implementation, she built a district-wide understanding of the purpose and use of formative, summative, and performance assessments as they relate to ASPIRE that will have a positive impact on student achievement for years to come. As a consultant, Dr. Edwards’ extensive knowledge and her gift for attention to details enable her to provide presentations that meet the needs of students and educators at all levels.
